This seems to be a rather big topic on the AO Thread in the IF, so lets move it here before Mike gets on our butts again .
What do you all think?
Personally I think no to an extent. Oaths of fealty should be sworn in the AL. The longer they wait the more power they gain and the more secrets they get. Having this unleashed in a Renegade Rider would be horrible for all.

I Personally, I would say yes. It gives more freedom to the players.
Secondly, I think it would be kinda cool! It's what I would do if I made a "non-mod" account. Of course, I wouldnt be opposing the Order. i would just be my own person!

I think of course you should be able to go Renegade. This is after all a game that pretty much has the storyline of what we do, meaning we can do a "Galbatorix and the Forsworn" saga, or a "Dark Times" saga, and etc.

Sage, I think that its more likely that the Order may try to track you down before you get a chance to do your own thing .

That might happen but i think that as long as he doesn't do anything wrong there wont be a reason for him to be tracked down.

Everyone takes the Galby example, but what about the rest of the forsworn? We know that at least one of them was an elf, and they were probably fully trained before switching over to the dark side, which is one of the reasons I think that we can go ROGUE whenever we want.

It's only fair to say yes. How about, after a while of training with your dragon. You are asked to join the Order. If you say yes than you are forced to stay, if not then they can leave without any struggle and they aren't wanted or anything, WHATSOEVER! If they do nothing against the laws of the land than they stay that way, if they don't than they become wanted.

Alright, I guess Durzasminion's idea is the best here. Any idea on how much less strong a rogue rider will be than the order riders? And will shades be stronger than rogue riders?

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
No idea. I think a rouge rider will be more powerful. However, if it is a shade and beast tamer, the shade wins.
Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
I think a shade should be close to a rogue rider but not equal. If the shade is a beast tamer that would put him above the rogue rider. However, full law abiding riders should be much more powerful than shades, even shades with beasts. A shade with a fanghur might be roughly equal in strength to a rider, but since the Order teaches them special secrets, the riders would have better technique/knowledge/whatnot.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
A rider can also be a beast tamer, right? And rogue riders still have their dragon, which is like 4x all of your own stats... I think shades would be roughly equal to a strength when they have a beast, but if the rider has a beast and a dragon... That would be trouble for the shade.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
Well, you have to remember that we're talking in terms of very powerful characters at any rate so to say that a Shade/beast tamer will beat a rider is a little off. The Shade/beast tamer could potentially best the rider but then again who wins will depend on how the battle is fought and how each characters strengths are managed. The statistically weaker character could potentially win if the person weilding that character is skillful enough. So all this talk about which character can beat which is a bit subjective, each battle will be unique depending on the strategy of the players.
That said, don't expect to be a starter class craftsman and beat a shade.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
All "Alpha" classes will be balanced, in the end the victor of a battle between them will all depend on who is more skilled

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
I think that Riders should be extremely powerful, more powerful than a Shade/BeastMaster, even if its rouge. However, when it comes to Rouge Rider against Order Rider, Order Rider should win 90% of the time. If people choose to be in the Order, then they need to have a lot more benefits and strength than a Rouge. If not, it may not be enough difference between the two, and everyone will be Rouge.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
The Balance between Good and Evil Riders should depend on their skill, not whether they stay in the Order or not. Because this way a Rouge Rider that had left after its full training would nearly always be defeated by a new Rider to the Order.. Just doesn't seem right.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
Yes, Rouge Riders should statistically loose against order riders. However, if it is a high level rouge rider, and a lower level Orde Rider, Rouge Rider should win.
When we go for the scematics, it is based off the same XP, etc. Each character not having food, etc. But the fights will never be ballenced. These are more of trends, and even then, I do not like the word trends. It eally depends on skill more than anything.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
@Daiko, we have to make Order riders tronger or else every rider will go Rouge.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
Yes, the order has to be stronger, but if it is a say...level 98 Rogue Rider against a level 59 Order rider, the advantage of the Order Rider is equalled with the level distance and whatnot.
Shades/beast tamers are special, they are able to change their beasts appearance to make them bigger and stronger.

I dont know, i should think that the rogue riders should be able to learn dark magic or something, which would be a plus, but be weaker than an order rider who uses only good magic spells.

Dark magic would be interesting to learn. Maybe there could be extremely hard quests that challenge even a very powerful order rider that have rewards that have to do with Dark magic. These quests could be S-class quests or something.

Re: Can Riders Go Rogue!?
Yeah riders gone rogue should have a definite disadvantage but not a huge one. If you let there be perks for staying in the order, not everyone will go rogue. And if they do, perks get taken away.

I haven't thought of all the perks of being an order rider but one is the ability to drain energy from your surroundings.
Order riders will have access to many powerful and useful skills while rogues will have to make due with what they learned
