Stats and how they'll work in game
Alrighty then, let's just get down to it shall we?
A few moments ago me and the other admins were talking on the CB about the game. They were asking about how stats are going to work, etc, etc. So, every level you will be given 4 points to invest in one of the 4 stats that are going to be in the game, pretty simple. Each stat will directly effect how efficient you are with each class. (Str/def for warriors, int for mage, dex for rougue). I made it like that so that even though you're able to learn and master all the classes in the game, you won't be the best of each class.
So, as an example, you're character has 2 str, 7 dex, 5 int, 3 def. You're obviously a better rougue/scout than you are a warrior. And vis versa, someone will be a more efficient warrior than a scout or mage. No to explain the stats and what they'll do.
Strength: This is a Warrior's bread and butter. This stat has the most impact on your "Close Quarter Combat" capabilities as well as your ability to wear/wield heavy armor and weapons.(Not as big on armor as Def is) The higher your strength the harder you'll hit, meaning more damage to the other person. Like I said above, the higher your strength is the more access you're going to have to higher level/heavier weapons and armor. EDIT: As of today, strength will now increase the amount of endurance your character you'll have, making strength more valuable to all characters and not just warriors.
Dexterity: Like Strength was to warrior, this is to Rogues. Dexterity will effect how accurate and powerful shots from a bow are, and how fast your attacks will be with smaller weapons(Daggers). Like all of the other stats, this one is very straightforward. The higher dex you have the higher level bows and other rogue weapons you'll be able to use.
Intelligence: Just like the other two above, this stat is Crucial to those wishing to be a magician. Intelligence will depict which spells you're going to be able to use, how powerful they will be, and which staves, wands, etc you're able to wield. Pretty simple.
Defense: This is, like strength, a warrior's main or secondary stat. Anyone that wants to live through a lot of damage will need strength or plenty of wards. Defense will effect what kind of armor you'll be able to wear(In addition to some strength) Defense will directly effect how much Health your character will have overall, more def = more health.
NON INVESTABLE STATS(meaning you can't put points in them)
Health: How much life force you have left in you, Def increases how much health you earn per level. Once it reaches ZERO you're dead, pretty straightforward.
Endurance: The amount of energy you have left in your body. You need endurance to perform actions such as spells, skills, etc. Once your endurance is used up you will start using health as a fuel for actions, so if you don't have endurance left you can still use spells and what not but each action will slowly kill you. BUT these aren't the only things that will decrease your endurance, if you don't eat for a certain amount of time your endurance will slowly go down, and just like I said before, it will eat away at your health until you're dead.

That's amazing! Really well thought out. One question though. When you say every level you go up, is that your combat level, where you get experience from killing NPC's or something completely different?

Yes. From level 1 to 2, you'll get 4, and so on. Each level you gain

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Yeah span, how will that work? A craftsman will have very, very little low attack and defense, but a high combat level. Will combat level be reflected by teh strength, attack skilles, etc.?
Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Span, how will craftsmen fit in? You will need specific levels to craft armour and weapons, etc. but how will that be judged?
Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
So do the non-investable stats just increase on their own? Also, so every level you get four stat points and two points to invest in skills/perks? Other than that I believe I understand everything.
EDIT: Nevermind, I just read the leveling up thread.

And what about Rogue Riders, Span?? Is dexterity more important than strength or intelligence to them or were you referring mainly to rangers & assassins & not to Riders in your post??

Lol, Rouge Riders are not under the rouge class. they are under the Dragon Rider class.

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Riders and Shades will have a mixture of every stat in their class, which will work exactly how the normal classes are: If you have more int you're going to be a more powerful spellweaver Rider than someone with more str.
And rogue, for riders, is just a title that is given when they are exiled, they're not part of the "Rogue" class group

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
But if there really is no level cap...at some point you're going to be able to master every class and be best at it...or am I wrong?
On a side note, it seems a little unfair that warriors have 2 BASIC stats that they NEED to level up (else they can't use weapons or end up...being owned by everyone and everything else, if I understood it correctly), while others judt need to level up 1, and choose if they WANT to level up others, without being at that much disadvantage as a warrior would be against any other who may have a slightly better...sense of leveling those two...egually if you will.
Unless I'm missing something this is the only thing that is a little weird--warrior being the only one with what you called secondary stat (although I know the other ones will most likely level up defense too, but it's not really...enforced)

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
However, warriors are going to be the best on the battle field.
Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
And also, everyone should have defense. You need to be able to take a few hits if you wanna win battles. Def is mainly for Warriors yes, but it should be high on the list for other classes to.

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Yeah I know other will have to have the def too...anyways if warriors will really be the best on the battle field won't that make them kinda over powered?
Or do you mean it in a way that every class will be best at some territory?

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Warriors aren't going to be the strongest class. Every class will have its general kryptonite class that can, for the most part, beat it rather quickly but of course if someone is a very good player than you can't really blame the class. And warriors don't necessarily NEED defense, they just would have a better use of it than other classes since they're more CQC oriented.
Of course I can always make it so that Strength adds to your endurance so that everyone would have a reason to add Strength, and those without would be at a handicap.
I'm just making it more simple, but if you want our stat system to be more complicated than I can do so

Of course not, I was just wondering lol. Pretty much thought it was something like that anyway...doesn't hurt to make sure tho.

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Adding endurance to Strength would be good too. As an assassin, I want to have fairly high Strength as well as Defense, not just Dexterity.

It's settled than, strength adds to endurance lol
Now people without strength will have less endurance to do what they need

Re: Stats and how they'll work in game
Hmm, I like the stat system, though I think dexterity should have some effect on warriors. Because if you think about it, being dexterous would definitely have an effect on sword play.
And I was thinking, how about a sort of critical hit. Like if you have the critical hit skill, every time you get one (say 10%-20% of the time) it adds to your damage. And the higher your dexterity, the more often you get critical hits and the higher the damage you achieve from them.
