BYOND Questions

For those of us that are trying to learn the BYOND Language(me included), here is where you can post questions regarding BYOND language and any confusion you may have to it, and we can ask each other questions to test our information about BYOND.

So Span, if we wanted to say something to our guild members, it would be programmed like this:

mob(which is your avatar)
verb(which is the command)
Hello!(the message)
Guild >> "[Fallen Elf] says, [Hello!]"

Correct?

This would be all indented out but the forum doesn't let us do that.

How did I know something like this was going to come up lol
(I will be using Dashes to indicate indenting, so - means one, -- means two, etc
It would be way more complicated than that actually lol
First you have to define what the guild is with a list(i will not go into lists here, it's a pain)

mob/player
-verb
--Guild_OOC(msg as text)
---usr << "[usr] says: [msg]"
---guild_list << "[usr] says: [msg]

It's simple once you figure out how to add/show people in your guild

I will, also, not go into servers and shells because that will fill up a whole page with just one example

I still don't know much, I stopped at 1.2 on the first chapter. Either 1.2, or 1.3...

One day, when I have a lot of patience. I will look at all that coding stuff.

Yeah, I got to look at that. Hey! with several of the other mods learning, perhaps some of you can code in some of the weapons, once I am done with them, and the armour too.

Well I stoped yesterday at the third chapter. I realized something. I really dind't get what I was reading. It makes plenty of sense. I simply would have a whole host of problems if I tried to make a game of my own.

It makes me appreciate what your doing a lot more though span.

Yeah it's very confusing. I'm going to finish chapter one and start chapter two today.

Wow, this is tough. But it starts to make sense after you strip away the complicating parts. I just figured out the world chat and made sense of it and now im figuring out the walls and floors and that kinda stuff.

This is actually pretty awesome now that I get it. I just got to the part with secret doors and now I'm going to have so many secret doors in my house. And the traps will be cool too.

Haha, awesome...I looked at it for a bit, but I guess if I read more than 2 chapters a day I'd go into serious comatose...at that point one of you would need to buy me some Sunny D, or a Pepsi Slush because that'd be the only thing capable of pulling me out...at some point I will tackle this.

Which chapter is that on? I am currently on chapter 2. I won't be able to read more than a chapter a day until weekends, and my week long break after this weekend.

It's actually not that complicated. I did, however, try creating my own world, and I got seriously confused...

Hahahaha, that made me laugh FE. Anyway, yeah, I am hoping maybe you can code the armour and weapons in, once I finish with them.

Density, Chatting and Hidden object are extremely basic
Try this:
Give your mob the ability to teleport by double clicking on a NON-DENSE turf

Whatta you mean?? Like actually put that into a code or...?

Yes, test out different methods to try and accomplish that
