Military

I was just curious about how many people here have thought about joining any branch of the military.I have thought about it but it will be a few years before I will be old enough to join but the branches I have looked at are the air force and the marines.Have you thought about it?

Only when WWIII happens.

I wanted to be a fighter pilot when I graduated from HS but my folks wouldn't hear of it and I'm the only son from my immediate family so it ended with that.

Well I sorta understand their not wanting you to do it when it is put that way but at the same time they should have thought about what you would have done for your country.

Have you thought about going to it since you are a grown man now?I mean I know you have a wife and everything who might not want you to but still just wondering if you thought about going for it now.

Plus, only children are currently not allowed to join the military. They are thinking of changing that.

I mean exactly that. If you are an only child, you are currently not allowed to join any branch of the military. They are looking at changing that.

There are a number of reasons, you need to pass on genes, it would be easier on families, etc.

O I thought you meant like they were gonna let kids serve.I was fixing to say that they were stupid if they were gonna do that.I misread what you wrote.

OT: I have for sure thought about that. I would love to be in Canadas Task Force. What is Marines and Navy? I'm pretty sure Navy is oceanic fighting, but Marine means water so...?

A Marine is a expert in Amphibious Landings and Assault, He serves both at land and at sea. They are some of the most versatile forces in the world because of this.

Ahh thank you. So then what's Navy

The navy deals with water only accept for maybe a few other things.They have the battleships,aircraft carriers,etc.I am pretty sure that the navy does a few things on land someone correct me if I am wrong but not very many things if any.

The US navy covers air, land and Sea. Really impressive. The Marines are the Vanguard of the US military, the first in and the last out. They also hate it when people call them part of the Navy, but they still are. you go to NROTC, Navy recruitment office, they may have their own head general, but they are still Navy.

not any more. my grandfather fought in Korea (and lost his leg), my brother was going to go into the Marines, but got called into the ministry. My Uncle is in civil service as an environmental law and another uncle was in the service. Several other people i know, where in the military, and now have left. I do have an old friend who was going to west point, but then dropped out to just go into the army.

Nope, I don't. Although one of my ancestors fought in the American Civil War before they moved to Canada.

Yes I know several people in the military and have relatives that were in the military but all of them are to old to serve.I think three of my relatives served at some point and time.

Sweet, my 4th Great Grandfather served in the 5th Michigan Cavalry, the Wolverines. They were the greatest brigade in the civil war, feared by both the north and the south. They were led by General Custard, a brilliant commander. They saved teh Union against Picket's charge at Gettysburg and many other battles.

Sweet!I have heard of general Custard several times in my history class.But that is really cool the he served under his command.My history teachers grandfather I think is who he said served under Nathan Bedford Forest in the Civil War.

Nice. Custard is an amazing general, however, his last stand was becuase he was so young and inexperianced.

Ya we are going to learn more about the civil war here pretty soon.And I am sure we will talk about Custard.
