Like the pop up idea?
Bounties
Ok is there a way for like a pop up window to come up when a bounty is up that involves you or guild members?Instead of having to go into a city to see if you have a bounty on your head or having someone else do it then you can have a window that pops up and shows you.Others may not want this and might want the bounty to be a secret but I think it would be good to have.Or it could be an optional thing.Like a button you click to whether or not you want it to pop up.

A pop up window in the game?
I'm not so hot on it myself, best explained by the option "taking the fun out of bounty". I mean they're not secret of course, but I think having it announced to the player would spoil it a bit. I think the talking to a particular NPC in a city would be more interesting, maybe there could be quests tied to the NPC, wanted posters if bounty reaches a really high level, etc etc in that vein. adds realism. (bounties =sweet idea btw)

Well, I just think we should have bounties on message boards in cities. I agree that a popup window would kinda take the fun out of a bounty.

Ya it was just an idea that popped in my head.I mean I think that you should be able to set it to whether or not you want it that way.For people who want it and those who don't/

Well it would be convenient for the one who is getting a bounty placed on, but not for the one who placed it.

It wouldn't really matter because you won't know who put the bounty on you it will be just like the notice board it will say you have a bounty but it won't say who put it on you.It just makes it to where you don't have to go into town to see if you have a bounty just to save time.

I'm not saying I dislike the idea, I actually kinda liked it. It's just that it would be a little inconvenient

What do you mean by inconvenient? If you mean the pop up window being an inconvenience it will not be this huge window that covers the screen it will just be a little small box that pops up at the bottom os the screen.

No, Durza means that it would be inconvient for the person who placed the bounty, because it would be harder for the person whom the bounty is placed on to be killed if he knows that he has a bounty on him.

Exactly, it gives the person more time to try and flee and find protection then if he had to find out by looking at the bounty board in a city

I most likely won't have it so that a pop up window comes up when you get a bounty. It would be like hunting a fox but screaming your lungs out while you're doing it. It would take the fun out of hunting that person if they know they're being hunted. Of course they'll be able to check a local bounty board to see who's on there and if they are then uh oh...better get hidding.

I think that they should run out. But I think some should stay longer than others. If the person in the bounty is really powerful, it should stay longer than if the person is weak. And popularity of the bounty should be factored in as well. If there's 20 people trying for that bounty, keep it. If there's one, ditch it. Ie,
There's one person hunting a noob for days real time, ditch it
There's one person hunting a noob for 10 minutes real time, keep it
There's one person hunting a superpowered/experienced player for a few days rt, keep it
There's one person hunting a superpowered/experienced player for a month rt, ditch it
There's 20 people hunting a noob for 2 minutes rt, keep it
There's 20 people hunting a noob for 2 days rt, ditch
There's 20 people hunting a superpowerful/experienced player for a day or two rt, keep it
There's 20 people hunting a superpowerful/experienced player for a month or two rt, ditch it
There's lots of things that would determine whether or not to keep or ditch a bounty. If it's put on a time limit, the limit may not be enough time to catch the person. The person could be a level 500 beast taming shade with 200 nagra for backup for all you know! It would take a very long time to kill that person and you wouldn't want to go to that trouble just to have the bounty disappear on a time limit.
Also, we wouldn't want someone to be away from a bounty board and kill their target only to find out that the bounty got taken down while they were hunting. Though to avoid situations like that, maybe if you want to try for a bounty you could register for that bounty and then if the bounty gets taken down while you're hunting you get a pop-up.
And will there be a mail system of some sort? Because if there is maybe you could sign up to receive notifications of all new bounties that are posted.

I would think the bounties just have a designated time applied to them that is generic and posted along with the bounty on the board. When time is up...it's up and is rescended. Anyone who is hunting the bounty will have to keep track of the time. That said, the time limit should be long enough to make it possible to be a bounty hunter and have a chance of finding the hunted person.
That brings up an interesting question:
How will a bounty hunter have any chance of finding someone with a bounty on them in a world as large as Alagaesia? Seems like a pretty unlikely happenstance tha tyou might just accidentally come across a wanted person.

When a bounty is placed on you, you get a skull and cross bones over your head. It could be only viewable for others, and only viewable for you after you read about it in a city.

I think that you should get a message when you have a bounty but other people have to read it on the message board/ from npc or however itll be set up.
Skull and crossbones sounds like a pretty good idea though.

Hmm, well that would be okay I guess but a hint as to the wanted persons last location in general at the time the bounty was placed would be better.

I like alkara's idea on how we should change the amount of time depending on how experienced they are. A variation by me would be that you make a formula ax+b, where a is the players level, b is the generic time that any person would have a bounty on, and x is the more time you get to catch the guy per level.

Bounty Hunters on the other hand, should have a little mini map showing where the skull and crossbones are, but with a delay so they don't know exactly where the person is, but the generic area. Hmm, that's true... I'm not sure, But I think we should give a bounty hunter an extra perk about finding them, or a way to make people more easier to find for them.

Thanks alfie, I just realized I need to post a LOT more to become a choice for beta testing xD. Maybe, as soon as the bounty hunter sees the sign in the city three different skull and crossbones pop up on a mini map, and only one of them is the true person?

Yes, posting with helpful suggestions is what I'll be looking at when we start picking Betas. I can't speak for the rest of the staff but in my mind thats the best indicator.
